Around the world in eighty days is a classic from Jules Verne written in year 1873. The main character of the story is a man who is always calm in nature and no one has seen any extreme emotions on his face. A man who spends his entire day according to a time table and is enjoying his life in retirement, but the servant is now not capable to serve his master thus he finds his replacement and the story begins. Phillips Fogg visits the club (a place for wealthy people to spend their evenings) and got indulged into an argument with his friends. In what time is it possible to travel the world? Eighty days including all possibilities. And since no one agreed a bet of 20,000 Pounds takes place and Phillip Fogg starts the journey with his new servant Passepartout. Later in the journey they met several people and were joined by two characters for this journey.
The entire book covers the adventures which took place to complete the journey and was full of ups and downs. It beautifully describes the structure of entire world from the year 1873. It covers the Indian subcontinent under the British rule and later covers a small bit of China and Japan, from here it reaches America and takes us through the United States. In between several sea adventures too became a part of this journey. Although till the end I was able to predict how the story will end. I will still recommend the book to people who are looking forward to read an adventure story as this book is one of the classics and is written with all details possible.
Although at certain points I started to lose out my attention but this is something common will all classics and nothing different in this case. Jules Verne ensured that every character has a purpose in the story and the readers are well known to it. The description of every character was clear at such a level that I was able to imagine them in my thoughts. We also live through all the advancements world was making and how things were different from the times we are living in. I wonder, how many days will it take now to travel the world?
